Today we’re going to focus on five easy DIY projects with big impact you can complete in just one hour! If you’re anything like me, you love a good home improvement project. But sometimes the thought of taking on a big project can be daunting. These projects are budget-friendly and will transform your home without requiring too much effort. A win-win if you ask me! Let’s get started!

I like sharing products, tools, and services that make life easier. This post may contain affiliate links and any purchase made through such links will result in a small commission for me (at no extra cost for you).

Paint a Wall

Ahh…Nothing beats a fresh coat of paint. This is easily one of my favorite DIY projects with a big impact. Paint can be expensive; but, compared to other projects, a gallon of paint is a very budget-friendly project that can completely change the look of a room. If you have any leftover paint on-hand – even better! Just make sure you have enough and that your paint hasn’t aged/discolored.

  1. Start by removing all of the furniture from the room and covering the floor with a tarp or plastic sheet to protect from paint spills
  2. Use painters tape to create a border around the edge of your wall or area you want to paint. This will help to ensure that your paint lines are straight and precise.

Now, if you’re a rebel like me, you’re going to skip steps one and two and make your way around the room trimming (very slowly) by hand and shuffling your paint tray on a garbage bag at your feet. This may not work for you, but it does for me and I haven’t had too many messes to clean up over the years.

  1. Stir and pour your paint into a tray and begin painting, using long, even strokes. Be sure to take your time and avoid painting too quickly which could lead to streaks or missed spots.
  2. Once the wall is fully painted, do a quick inspection and touch up any bare or thin spots. Depending on the color you chose, the color you’re painting over, or even the kind of paint you use, you may or may not decide to do a second coat.

And that’s it! You’ve just successfully painted a wall and transformed your space.

Hang New Curtains

Another one of my favorite DIY projects with big impact is new curtains. Curtains can add color, texture, and personality to any room. But before you run out and buy the first set of curtains you see, keep these tips in mind:

1. Choose a fabric that will stand out.

A busy or bold fabric will make a big statement in any room. If you’re looking for something more subtle, stick to solid colors or prints with small scale designs.

2. Pay attention to the length.

Too long or too short curtains can look awkward and unfinished. Make sure you consider the height of your curtain rod, too! Give yourself enough fabric to hang properly without bunching or gathering at the bottom. Remember – if you find the perfect curtains but they’re too long, you can do a quick hem with some fabric tape or even cut them off depending on the fabric.

3. Consider the lining.

Not all curtains need a lining, but if you’re looking for extra insulation or privacy, it’s a good idea to choose a lined curtain panel. Lining will also help your curtains hang nicely and prevent them from becoming faded or stained over time.

Bonus Tip

Lined curtains can sometimes be expensive. To cut costs, you can use a double curtain rod with some cheap sheer panels to get a layered look. A shower curtain rod can be used for the inside layer if you’re really on a budget! This is also the perfect solution if you’re in a rental and can’t make any holes in the walls.

4. Hang them TALL and WIDE!

This tip is especially important for small spaces and small windows. Hanging your curtains tall and wide will make everything feel bigger.

Rearrange Furniture

Raise your hand if you are a habitual furniture re-arranger. šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

No joke – I have to-scale drawings of my living room and bedroom (including furniture!) so I can rearrange on paper before doing the hard work in real life. And any reason is a good reason for this quick change. Some reasons I have rearranged my furniture:

  • My husband/wife/partner/roommate is out of town
  • It’s time for Christmas trees!
  • Making room for kids toys/a new baby
  • My Havenly design service suggested this
  • I saw it on Pinterest

Whatever your reason, grab yourself some furniture movers and get started!

Revamp Your Entry Way

The entry way is the first thing you see when coming home. Take a few minutes to make it yours so you get all the feels when coming home. šŸ˜Š Of all the DIY projects here, these tips might be my favorite for not just a big impact, but for that “Welcome Home” feeling.

Paint a Door

One of the quickest and easiest ways to give your entryway a makeover is to paint the door! Choose a color that will brighten up the space, make a statement, and make it feel more finished.

Hang a Mirror

Adding a mirror to your entryway is a great way to make the space feel bigger and more open. Plus, it’s a great place to check your makeup or hair before you head out the door.

Add Some Greenery

Adding some greenery to your entryway is a great way to add some life to the space. Try adding a potted plant or two, or go for a more natural look with some fresh flowers. Faux greenery and flowers also work – these are a few of my favorites from Amazon.

Install a Rug

A rug is a great way to add some color and texture to your entryway. Be sure to choose one that is both stylish and practical. My all time favorites are my Ruggable Rugs. I have them in four rooms of my house and wish I had purchased them sooner!

Add Some Storage

One of the biggest challenges of an entryway is finding enough storage space for all of your belongings. Add some extra storage by installing shelves, hooks, or bins.

DIY Shelves

Young House Love and Ana White teamed up for a great tutorial on Floating Shelves. A few years back I used a similar method to add some shelves to our powder room. Now they are one of my favorite things to decorate as the seasons change.

There you have it – with an hour of your day, you can transform your space. Or at least get a makeover started! I can’t wait to see what you accomplish in your hour!
